The Afternoon Kick-Off on Ozsports Radio will be a weekly sports magazine show. Kicking off in June, the show is a one-stop shop for all things domestic and international sports, covering everything from match day results, transfers, player interviews, amazing goals and more.
A volunteer sports radio presenter in Australia is responsible for researching, preparing, and hosting a regular sports segment or dedicated program. Duties include delivering live commentary, conducting interviews with athletes or coaches, operating studio broadcast equipment, and complying with community broadcasting and media regulatory guidelines.
Role Overview
As the voice of local, amateur, or community sports, you will engage listeners with passionate, accurate, and entertaining sports coverage. This role requires excellent communication skills and a deep understanding of various sporting codes.
Key Responsibilities

- Show Preparation: Research the latest sporting news, scores, fixture changes, and player updates.
- On-Air Presentation: Host the program, read sports bulletins, and provide dynamic live-to-air commentary or opinions.
- Interviews: Source, prepare, and conduct engaging interviews with local sporting figures, coaches, and athletes.
- Technical Operation: Operate the broadcast desk (panelling), manage audio levels, and play station identifications, interviews, and music.
- Listener Engagement: Interact with the audience via talkback, social media, or station-hosted text/email platforms.
- Outside Broadcasts: Represent the station at local sporting events or community broadcasts when required.

- Sporting Knowledge: A strong understanding and passion for local, national, and international sports.
- Communication: Clear, articulate, and expressive voice with the ability to think quickly on your feet.
- Reliability: Commitment to a consistent roster schedule (e.g., weekend mornings or regular weekday slots).
- Technical Aptitude: Willingness to learn or utilize industry-standard radio broadcasting and play-out software.
- Media Compliance: Understanding of Australian community broadcasting codes and media law (e.g., defamation, copyright, and bias regulations).
Time Commitment
Typically ranges from 3 to 6 hours per week. This generally includes show preparation and a live or pre-recorded shift, with additional time dedicated to training or station meetings.
