CITY TOO STRONG AS THEY TAME THE ROAR

Melbourne City has climbed to fourth on the Isuzu UTE A-League Men Ladder following a 4-1 win on the road against Brisbane Roar on Friday night. Aurelio Vidmar’s men couldn’t have gotten off to a better start when Andreas Kuen found the back of the net in the opening minute of the contest. From there, a pair of goals to forward Yonatan Cohen, along with Steven Ugarkovic’s 82 minute of goal sealed a strong performance from City who have now won three of their last four matches.

AUCKLAND CONTINUE HISTORIC START IN A FEISTY NEW ZEALAND DERBY 

Auckland FC’s incredible start to life in the Isuzu UTE A-League Men Ladder following a 4-1 win on the road against Brisbane Roar on Saturday afternoon. In front of more that 26,000 fans at GO Media Stadium, It was Auckland who went ti the break in front after Isaac Hughes’ first half goal. The second half of the enthralling contest saw Auckland extend their lead in the 70th minute thanks to Band Pijnaker’s close range before Kosta Barbarouses set up a grandstand finish with an 82 minute strike-the first goal Auckland conceded this season. Steve Corica’s men however did what had to be done to hold on and record their sixth consecutive victory this season.

WESTERN DOWN CHAMPIONS TO RETURN THE WINNERS CIRCLE

After three weeks without victory, Western United have returned to winning ways after a last minute 2-1 over Sydney FC on Sunday afternoon. Following a tight first half, it was Western who struck first thanks to a brilliant long range effort from Kahli Johnson in the 55th minute, before the Sky Blues levelled the scores just three minutes later. With the contest looking set for a draw, Western stole all three points in the 88th minute thanks to Kiara De Domizio’s close range finish.

WELLINGTON KNOCK OFF HIGH FLYING ROAR AT HOME

Wellington Phoenix made it two wins on the bounce after a big 2-1 win over high flying Brisbane Roar on Sunday afternoon. A pair either side of the half from Phoenix star Annalie Longo cancelled out Emily Pringles neat finish on the stroke of half time. The performance saw the Phoenix climb to eighth on the Ninja A-League Women ladder, with the Roar sliding back down to third.

KUOL STARS AS MARINERS HOLD OUT 10-MAN SYDNEY

Central Coast Mariners mover do seventh place on the Isuzu UTE A-League Men ladder thanks to a hard thought 2-1 win over Sydney FC on Sunday evening at Industree Group Stadium. A tight opening first 45 was highlighted by a red card to Sydney FC goalkeeper Harrison Devenish-Meares, leaving the Sky Blues down to 10 men for more than 45 minutes. The Mariners capitalized on this via Alou Kuol who found the back of the net twice in the second period, with his go ahead goal in the 70th minute cancelling out Patryk Klimala’s equaliser and ultimately sealing the three points for Mark Jackson’s side.
